What an Amazing experience in a fantastic setting. Just completed a 7 Day ride that I will never forget. Saw the most incredible scenery, Rode some amazing trails and met the most humble and friendly people. Our Guide and support crew made our adventure the perfect riding experience, And ended up being our extended riding family. Thank you Victor, Aimi and Windy for Memories I will always treasure.

I’ve never done any dirt biking before only road bikes. I was a bit hesitant because of all the off-road stuff that I saw on the YouTube and advertising clips. I’m 58 years old and only in reasonably good condition. I thought I’d take a chance and see whether this was a fun trip, because of all the other positive reviews. I’m so very glad that I did because the trip was superb. I found it very challenging because I’ve never done any off-road stuff and a lot of this offloading is single Trail and up-and-down very steep inclines which other people on the trip found really fun and no trouble at all, but I was challenged by. They were many times when I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew but I’m very glad that I did because I feel that I’ve experienced something I would never have experienced anywhere else. I can’t encourage other people enough to take a chance and spend the time to do a five day trip or more. Five days was enough for me. I was exhausted at the end and most of the other guys were too, but I can see that the long trips would be fun too, because I don’t want to stop now at the end of the five days .

14 day Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh

This group, Frontier Travel Vietnam, were amazing. I've never been on a motorcycle holiday before and had never ridden off-road either, so for a novice rider it was an amazing experience.

Firstly, the team.

Incredible bunch. There was a total of 6 people looking after a large group of 12 of us that ranged from tour leader to mechanics, backup and photographer. They were the most hospitable bunch I've ever come across on any holiday. They looked after everyone before we set out on bikes, during and after the tour and went way past above-and-beyond to do so. They made us feel very welcome, showed us the best spots to dine and visit and were extremely polite, helpful and hospitable. Couldn’t have asked for a better team.

The ride

Because our team was so large, we had the option to split the groups regularly and choose whether to ride on-road or off-road which suited me as I hadn't been on a motorbike 10 years or so prior to the trip. The riding was varied and times challenging. Varied beautiful scenery, various weather conditions (basically wet or dry mostly warm, cooler in the mountains), and all different types of terrain. Even, for me, some of the roads were still being constructed which meant lots of potholes, gravel and slipping and sliding. My personal fave was riding through some of the crowded city areas. Lots of weaving and fun! But, for the more experienced lot, beach rides, muddy fields, rocky forests, steep climbs – plenty to keep anyone challenged. There’s lots to describe but all amazing and worth getting involved with.

The stops

A different hotel or home-stay/hostel each night. Some luxury, some basic – all were brilliant. The people were all very friendly everywhere. Some nice surprises thrown in too!

The kit

You could go to Vietnam completely unprepared and just buy all the kit you’ll need there for a lot, lot cheaper than almost anywhere else. Most people went with boots, helmet and waterproofs and little else. Camelbacks are highly recommended, you won’t need to carry much if you have the support car which will transport all your luggage. The bikes: mainly Honda CRF 300’s. Some few thousand KM’s old, some brand new. Some hiccups along the way, tyres going flat, lights dying, mirrors smashing all the way up to bikes getting submerged into the sea! Everything got fixed asap and people were back on the road in no time.

FIVE STARS FOR THIS LOT

The team that looked after us went out of their way to look after us and deserve special praise:

Victor – tour leader. Excellent rider, friendly guy, led everyone to each checkpoint. He will get lost sometimes but firmly believes breaking away from Sat Nav creates a more enjoyable experience.

Windy (not real name!) – Photographer. Supporting Victor. Amazing ability to take photos while riding (!!). Also, handles drone cameras for excellent shots of riders and surrounding.

Dazza – Mechanic. Always on hand following the teams keeping close eye on everyone’s riding abilities. If you like your drink this guy will make your day… every day!

Dave – Rear support. Stayed at rear of pack and ensured nobody got left behind or lost. Dai, Annie and Aimee. Dai was the driver and additional mechanic of the support car and ensured everyone’s belongings were transported safely. Annie was like a mum for us – SUPER organised and helpful she would ensure everyone was checked into the hotels, the correct luggage was sent to the correct rooms, ensured lunches were amazing – same for dinners. Kept everything in check was just amazing. Same for Annie too who didn’t join the tour but made sure were well looked after before we set out. Like I mentioned before, I’ve never encountered such a dedicated team of tour operators who went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly and that their customers had a fantastic experience. I highly, highly recommend this group and would definitely use them again if I were to return. Thank you for everything!!!

As a first time traveler to SE Asia, it was a little bit overwhelming planning my trip and adventures- Where to start? What to do? How can I get off the tourist path? How can I have the most fun? How can I see the most beautiful nature? Who can I trust? How can I make it back in one piece? If you are reading this review and have these same questions, here is my experience with Thang and Frontier Travel. First off, the planning phase was very straightforward. Frontier held up every end of their promises and guarantees. Nothing was shady at all.They were easy to communicate with and accessible. One suggestion is to bring your own gear. They have all the gear you would need, but I think it would be a good idea to bring your own to ensure comfortability. I did not bring my own (in order to travel lightly) and everything was ok except for the boots. I had to ride in boots that were way too small. Not the best, but nothing could take away from the experience I had.

The trip was everything I had hoped for and more. As a businessman and owner of Frontier, Thang is legit. He wants you to have the adventure of a lifetime. On a personal level and as the guide for our 6 day motorbike tour of the North-Central mountains, Thang became a best friend for life. He is so patient and kind, yet efficient and problem-solving. Any needs that I had were met gracefully and with love. He took me to places I could have never dreamed of- remote villages that I would have never been able to see without his guidance, views that are truly indescribable, into people's homes for food and green tea...This trip was truly the best thing I have ever done in my life. The ride and the natural beauty itself would have been enough to give this declaration, but what put this trip over the top was Thang. I can't emphasize how patient and knowledgeable he is.

This trip 6 days in the north central mountains on a 250cc motorcycle) isn't for someone who is looking for a "chill-out", "relaxing" touristy getaway. It is a breathtaking adventure. I came into the trip with a beginners level of motorbike skill. I am athletic and in good shape and the ride challenged me but rewarded me with the experience of a lifetime and I came out of it as a much more advanced rider, thanks to Thang. I recommend this trip for anyone who seeks adventure, SPECTACULAR natural beauty and growth. This trip genuinely changed my life. Cheers.

My wife and I spent an incredible week in Vietnam and Frontier Travel planned our entire itinerary and Thang was our guide for the week. The trip was perfect and you couldn't ask for a more generous and thoughtful guide. Thang did a great job planning out every detail of the week and communicated with us clearly in advance and took the time to come to our hotel when we arrived to greet us and take us to a great restaurant in Hanoi. My husband and I just returned from a week tour in North Vietnam with Thang as our guide. He speaks excellent English, has a great knowledge of Vietnam's history and culture, and is extremely attentive to details. Prior to our arrival, he found us a driver to take us to Mai Chau (the mountains) and Lan Ha Bay for a two-day sail with stunning scenery, as well as setting up resort arrangements, a private boat and various activities. Thang took us on the best food tour, a bike tour through rice fields, kayaking through caves and so much more. Not only were his services a great value, he couldn't have done more to make us have an unforgettable vacation. Highly recommend Frontier Travel!

I traveled to Vietnam from California specifically to meet Thang and go on a one-on-one motorcycle trip organized by him after my good friend came back raving. He is a highly experienced guide and truly cares about his guests.

There are a number of options for guides in Hanoi but what Thang offers is more boutique and personal than the other options. He was also very capable when it came to organizing logistics and arranging deposits from abroad. I can't say enough good things. I left town wanting to come right back. Next time I will bring friends and spend twice as much time riding around Vietnam on a motorbike with Thang.
